Overview of HHSA Youth Sailapalooza:
With adult supervision, youths from 6 - 18 years old will have a day of sailing and racing on Herring Bay, MD
Check-in starts at 0830.
The morning will include an overview of how sailboats work, a safety briefing, assignment of participants to boats, and boat briefing by each boat's Skipper.
HHSA members will provide boats and skippers. Each boat will have two experienced adults on board that will serve as instructors and coaches. Each boat will have 2-4 youth onboard.
Around 1200, boats and crews will depart HHN and learn how to handle their boats. Everyone should bring a lunch and a water bottle for lunch on the water. Hats and sunscreen highly recommended.
After a 1300 lunch, there will be demonstrations of the starting sequence and some practice starts. Time permitting, one or two short races are planned.
Boats and crews will return to HHN between 1530 and 1630.
An onshore pizza party is planned after a day on the Herring Bay around 1630.
Update HHSA Sailapalooza Pre-Briefing
On Thursday, August 7, at 7:00PM, we are holding a Zoom call to review the events for Saturday's HHSA Sailapalooza. It is intended to get our volunteer coordination down, answer questions about the day's activities, etc. This is sort of like a Skipper's meeting, but for everyone (volunteers, skippers, parents, sailors, etc) to have an opportunity to ask questions.
This is the first time that we have run this type of event so we are learning as we go. With a good plan, we should have a good day.
