Race on Saturday

Is there a Skipper's Meeting tonight as per the SIs? Looks like we have only 3 boats and no RC boat. Forecast of 5knts from the East not promising for a race down Eastern Bay.

Also supposed to be a pursuit race.

I’d suggest we do a rabbit start and not do pursuit start.

If so, I can manage such with one start for all 3 of us. Warning at 11 and start at 11:05. I have to review procedure, but I’d plan passing 83A on port tack at prep down then tack to starboard at 11:05.

If so, I’d collect everyone’s time and communicate if we suggest shortening course.

I’d like everyone cell phone also if no confirmation is made over radio.

As per the SI's, an RC boat is not required to be on station for the start or finish of the Race to Miles River. Since the start time has not changed, each boat's start time should be the same as last year's. Jim Bradshaw: can you confirm?

2025 Race to Miles River Pursuit Start Times

Thanks Mark!

But what do we do about race shortening with No RC signed up?

As noted before, I could sign-up as RC in order to coordinate any group decision to shorten race.

Doug

You could use that list, but since the start times are based on the boats with the highest PHRF number it might delay The starts by a few minutes.   I can create a list from the boats that have registered to race, or all the Boats in the fleet this year.   With the pursuit start, shortening the race is not an option because the start times are designed based on the length of the course.  The first boat that crosses the finish line wins the race – no corrected times are needed.

Just registered! I hope there is better wind than current models.

I can be online for a skippers meeting at 7 if needed. If so, I can circulate a Zoom link. The meeting would be 30 minutes maximum.

I do not think a shortening can work.

The weather forecast seemed to have a bit more breeze, and so hopefully that holds

Also, note Bay Retriever asked to race and then plans to go rafted up, so Mark and I are going to figure out how to get him registered. So for timing purposes, we should add him onto the scratch sheet.

Allegiant might also make it onto the racecourse as well

If the pursuit starting times are posted, I'm not sure there is a need for a Skipper's Meeting. Thanks to everyone for the clarifications.

And putting a plug here that the cruisers are rafting up. So the spir of the race is to the raft up at Shaw Bay.

Hello All, so the wind forecast today has in fact gotten worse. I fear that John comments will prevail. I am going to give one more weather pass tomorrow morning early. And make a posting about if the race is a Go/No Go. Right now the wind during the prevailing race hours is less than 4 knots and down to 0 knots based on the HRRR model which I find most accurate. NOAA still says 5-10...

I am also inclined not to cancel and see what the wind holds. However, the wind does not look promising and the course cannot be shortened as a pursuit race.

So if turnout is going to die like the wind, then in that case I would just cancel it to save everyone logistical questions.

Bert

Thanks. I have crew coming from VA and leaving by 8 am. Do you know when you might call it?

I can call it before 8AM, or I can simply let you all try and race. In general I try not to preemptively cancel races.

This race is different as that it is a pursuit, there is no RC on station, so... once out on the water, I think its race or don't race and see what happens.

Again, I am in general disinclined to arm chair cancel races. If NLT 8AM the weather looks bad, ie no wind, I don't people to be miserable. If there is <5 knots, Allegiant will most likely not be racing.

I’d prefer to start and see what happens.

Cheers,

Doug

Jenn and I are unable to make the start time so we will miss the race, but will be at the cruise and the raft up. Will see everyone later in the afternoon. Hope the forecast is wrong and we get some wind!

Good luck today racers. Hope there is wind on the race course.

Hi all.

The raft up and party will be held at Shaw Bay. Hope to see some of you there.
