WNRs3r6 (Wed Sep 3) - RC, Knot Home, and Post-Race...
Jim Watson

Hello racers,

This coming Wed is the last race of the summer WNR series. Knot Home is RC. We will plan to be out on Happy Place as RC Boat (thank you Jayne), and some crew will be racing Knot Home -- we are taking the RC Redress, and they will be scored as a guest boat, not affecting race results. More about the race later when the forecast is closer.

In keeping with our tradition for the last race of the series, the after-race social is at HHS/Ketch22. Reminder that 9pm is last call for food orders and drink orders, but there is no problem ordering right up to the last minute. If you are planning on coming, please reply on this thread how many. Recognizing it can be a challenge for crews coming from HHN, if you are running late, there will be a point-of-contact you can call with your food/drink order. Making a short-stay at the HHS transient dock is also an option (call HHS for more details).

Since I'll be on RC, I need someone from a HHS-based boat to take over from me being coordinator, which includes:

* Grabbing some tables outside that can seat the HHSA group (based on number of replies who is coming).

* Being a point-of-contact for HHSA-racers to call if they running late and help place their food/drink orders before 9pm.

Hoping you have a great Labor Day Weekend, and hoping the stretch of beautiful weather continues into next week for our last WNR. See you on the water!!

Take care

—Jim

Count Amara in with 4 people if we can finish on time

Jim Watson

Knot Home will have 4-5 people for HHS/Ketch22,

and RC, if we can make it, will have 6 people.

Remember to let this thread know if you plan to come to the

after-race social this Wed. Thank you to Luis and Cristina

for being the point-of-contact for organizing seating space

and for those that are running late that need to place a

food and/or drinks order before 9pm.

Bruce Trauben

Put-in-Bay hopes to come to the post race with 2-4 people if we finish on time.

Thank you everyone for their patience and flexibility last night. We were determined to get the race off even as we had to work through the issue of the fouled prop. There were a couple of things not working in the RC gear as we left the dock. Here is a list of the status:

* Tetrahedron battery powered pump not working (probably battery charge).

* Tetrahedron has a small hole in one of the corners; the tape repair we made seemed to work for the evening, but is not permanent.

* One of the flag halyards is detached and not really functional.

* The electronic signal horn is not working (probably battery charge).

Then we left the dock.

* When we fouled the prop on the tetrahedron rode, we were able to recover the anchor, tetrahedron, and shackle. We used a temporary rode, which was removed. The shackle is attached to the black tetrahedron bag.

Any way, thank you again to Kevin and Bay Retriever for offering assistance for the de-fouling the prop and for setting the tetrahedron for us. Thank you to everyone for working through the radio check-ins, delay, and taking/announcing your own finish times. It took a village, but we got it done -- hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful evening on the water.

Take care

Adding to Jim's note:

The air pump (pistol) needs to be plugged in periodically to ensure it's ready for the next use. It uses a USB-C connection. We charged it for about 10 minutes after we got back to the dock. After you use it, try to get it on a charger for the next person. Otherwise the footpump and battery cable pumps are in the kit.

Tetrahedron leaks. The corners are worn down and the seams are exposed. The Tet needs a general service in the offseason. Its been around for a long time. This is something for the Competition Committee or other volunteer to schedule and manage. I think Annapolis Inflatables did the last service. The other inflatable cylinders need a similar check. Prior to the HHSA Regatta especially.

Tetrahedon rode. I will pick up a 50' anchor line to replace the cut line.

Flag Halyards: They are fine. One of the clips got untied so it slipped loose. Note: when storing the halyards, I recommend rolling the lines around the TOP bar. They don't seem to tangle as easily this way.

Signal Horn: I passed along the problem to Hutch. In the mean time, there will be air horn cans in the kit.

Tetrahedron Launch: ALWAYS launch any inflatables from the stern. Drop the inflatable in the water. Let out the rode behind the boat. Drag the inflatable to the desired position. Then drop the anchor. The inflatable will be pulled to where your drop the anchor.

Thank you guys for the hard work during this beautiful night. We were sorry to hear about your mishap and missed you at Ketch 22. Hopefully no damage to Happy Place.

Jim, Allegiant would be happy to take your RC duty for the last WNR and let Knot Home Race in full. If you'd prefer to stay the course, and keep RC, totally understand. If of interest, let me know.

Jim Watson
Hi Albert,

Thank you.  We will stay keep the RC duty, but appreciate the offer.
