Racing Discussions

Series 1 race 4 weather
Kevin Sherwood

I know Jim and the Blue Bayou II crew are very familiar with the club culture in terms of conditions we race in, but with Mark offshore I wanted to start the discussion.

Tonight's forecast has been consistent for several days with winds 15-20 gusting to 30 from the east. With Tilghman Island being the only thing between us and twenty miles of fetch, any chance of an early decision before driving out?

We're currently 8-15 from the ENE at Herrington north.

Richard Piatt

I live in Holland point just west of 81A Right now it is pretty nasty out there albeit subject to change.

Luis Infante

Yeah, the forecast is calling for similar conditions as to what we had last week except with more rain. I think it was the right call last week to cancel based off of the sea state and sustained winds that were more inline with the forecasted gusts. I'm not sure things will be much different this week.

I concur that it likely is not ideal for the RC to be able to setup, maintain, and finish a race. If the breeze was from the west, then wave state would not be as ominous.

Amara will bail again. We're kinda fair weather friends and we have to brave beltway traffic in addition to the race.

Kevin,

thanks for starting the thread. Current conditions in North Beach are pretty bad. It is amazing how similar it is to last Wednesday with 15-20 kt wind from the NNE. The sea state is already looking like last week, and wave heights are only predicted to increase.

Given all of the comments and the predictions for continued rain and wind for the afternoon, I am going to go ahead and cancel the race tonight.

i hope to see you on the water next week,

Jim

Thanks Jim. Maya was likely to bail. Next week is finally looking more summer like and conducive to racing. Maya is the RC.

Thank you for an early decision! The forecast does not good.
