Well, we made a deal with the family if we were successful in A2B and the return, we would reduce racing until Frostbite, spending time on doing other family event, travel, and farm/house projects.
Well as luck would have it, last winter's prop shaft problems creeped into the A2B prep list. We also decided to do some significant work on the 1987 Volvo Penta 2002, too. As luck would have it, the gremlins found their way into the motor. I was able to get things reliable to start, finish and return from Bermuda, but it seems that was about the extent of our luck with it.
I tried to address some things this summer, but wasn't having much luck. Last weekend preparing to do RC for the CHESSS Last Hurrah, the motor did not wake up. Luck would have it that my brother-in-law wasn't busy, so we used his power boat to do RC. It all worked out. We all had a nice day on the water, too. I put all the flags on poles and used his fishing pole holders for the flag work. It was a light air day, but we got the race off and all finished.
During the boat show I did some prep research work for a possible repower. Well, after going through the stages of grief, I've made the decision to repower with a Beta 20. I have to change the blades on my folding prop from Left Hand to Right Hand rotation, too.
So, on Frostbite Sundays, we will be spending the time stripping out the engine electronics, removing the engine, then putting in new electronics and new engine. Also, prepping and swapping prob blades during a short haul.
While it was nice to take a break, we are all eager to get back to HHSA racing and hoping to do the down the bay race next year double handed.
Hope to see ya soon,
Cheers,
Doug
